Titanium & Zirconium Field Welding Services

When a shutdown clock is running, you need a crew that can mobilize fast, weld reactive metals the right way, and leave you with paperwork your inspectors will trust. Titanium Fabrication Corporation brings that standard to every job site. Since 1980, our ASME-certified field welding teams have supported projects across six continents, working inside chemical units, pulp and paper mills, refineries, offshore and onshore oil and gas facilities, and defense programs where certification is nonnegotiable.

Why TiFab for On-Site Reactive-Metal Welding

Titanium and zirconium reward good practice and punish shortcuts. Our approach centers on clean prep, controlled atmosphere, and repeatable weld procedures backed by certification. TiFab’s welders are qualified to ASME Section IX, and our programs support ASME-certified field welding for pressure equipment and process pipe. For defense work, our NAVSEA-certified field welding capabilities align with customer drawings, military specifications, and QA surveillance requirements.

What We Do On-Site

We bring shop-level discipline to the field so critical equipment can return to service with confidence.

  • Pipe spool and tie-in welding: Non-flanged joints, field fit-up, purge management, and final NDE for process piping and headers.
  • Pressure equipment repair and modification: Reactors, columns, and tanks, including nozzle additions or relocations, overlay for ferritic interfaces, and code-compliant patch work in titanium or zirconium.
  • Heat exchanger service: Tube-to-tubesheet welding, re-tubing and plugging programs, leak tracing, and hydrotest coordination to restore heat transfer and integrity.
  • Rotating and casting repairs: Titanium casting repair for valves, pumps, and agitators, with controlled dilution and post-weld inspection to protect fit and function.
  • Industry-specific tasks: Diffuser arm installation and repair for pulp mills, flange face restoration with weld overlay, and field machining coordination where required.

Mobilization and Equipment Capabilities

TiFab maintains fully stocked field welding trailers that move worldwide. Each unit carries power sources, purge hardware, trailing shields, chambers, fixtures, gas management, and QA instrumentation. Site surveys are completed in advance, so access, lifting, safety, and isolation plans are clear before mobilization. Once on site, our supervisors coordinate permits, hot work controls, confined-space requirements, and lockout/tagout with your team to keep the job safe and predictable.

We're Experts in Reactive Metals

Titanium (commercially pure grades and common alloys) and zirconium are our core field materials. Manual GTAW is the primary process due to its control over heat input and shielding, supported by qualified filler selections that match strength and corrosion performance. Where overlay or transition joints are required, we plan dilution and heat input to protect base metal properties and downstream corrosion resistance.

ASME Field Welding - NAVSEA-Certified Field Welding

A Partner for Complex Industries

The work environments we support share a need for corrosion resistance, uptime, and traceable quality.

  • Chemical and Petrochemical: Turnarounds and emergent repairs for columns, reboilers, condensers, and chlor-alkali or acid service equipment, completed under tight schedules and specification control.
  • Oil and Gas: Sour service and chloride environments where titanium and zirconium resist localized attack, with tie-ins and vessel work executed around live-unit constraints.
  • Pulp and Paper: Bleach plant service, diffuser systems, and liquor handling where chloride stress concerns drive alloy choice and careful weld metallurgy.
  • Defense: Programs that specify NAVSEA acceptance. Our NAVSEA-certified field welding experience, combined with ASME-certified field welding for pressure boundary work, supports shipboard and shore-based projects that demand strict oversight.
